Some of the important documentation which is required to make an application for probate, or which your legal representative may need are as follows:
- The Original Will (if one exists) and any codicils of the Deceased
- Death Certificate
- If you are the executor or applicant, your Government issued photo identification
- List of all variations of names the Deceased was known by
- All bank statements or statements from financial institutions showing the balances as at the date of death. If unknown, contact information of the banks with which the Deceased either had or may have had had accounts. If banks are unknown, a list of financial institutions which the Deceased may have had accounts in
- Addresses of any real property owned by the Deceased or title documentation if you have it
- Details of any other assets and liabilities of the Deceased including mortgages
- Details of all immediate family members of the Deceased, including those who have passed away, and ay other family members entitled to notice of the application
- Details of all beneficiaries under the Will whether or not they are family
